Why Is Vectro different from budget hosting providers?

Budget hosting providers who provide extremely high amounts of disk space and monthly transfer often bank on their customers only using a fraction of their account's resources. They will sometimes disable or even cancel accounts which have not used up their limit simply because the high traffic sites put too much of a strain on their servers. In order to offer their service at such a low price they often squeeze more web sites on one server than it can handle, which can cause any number of problems.

The fact is bandwidth is an important resource and it must be managed properly between the host and the customer. Vectro offers reasonable allocations of monthly transfer. Increasing the limit is flexible to your needs. Your site(s) will not be placed on overloaded servers. Limits are set on how many sites are allowed on each one based on the hardware configuration in use.

How long does it take for a new account to be set up?

All payment information is checked by a human being for signs of fraud. Vectro reserves the right to deny service to any account we determine to be fradulent. However, legitimate accounts are set up in 24 hours or less on weekdays. An e-mail is sent to the account holder's address with the information you will need to access your account for the first time. This e-mail will also contain other important information about your service.

If I host my site with Vectro, what kind of tech support will I get?

Tech support is available through online support tickets 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Responses come within 24 hours or less and in many cases just a few hours. Problems are always solved in a professional, friendly, helpful and timely way.

What kind of network and servers are used?

Vectro's servers are hosted on a powerful network which uses 1Gbps ethernet in a datacenter with a fully redundant connection from multiple tier-1 providers. These include Global Crossing, T Systems, Level 3, Sprint, Linx, XO, NYIIX, AboveNet and Tiscali. Our servers are all Pentium-based and run Linux.

Do you charge a setup fee for your hosting service?

Hosting accounts at Vectro have no setup fees. The only initial fees are for new domain registrations. All new accounts come with a 30 day money back guarantee.

What are the costs of a domain name? (myname.com)

Domains cost $9.95 per year. Available choices are .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info and .us. Domains are renewed on a yearly basis. You can pay for up to 10 years in advance. First year of payment is required to register a domain in most cases. Yearly re-bills can be invoiced or automatically charged to your credit card. If you want to register a domain name but are not ready to have your website hosted, you can park your domain for free until you are ready for a hosting plan.

How long does it take to register a domain name?

Domain names are available within 24 hours or less in most cases. In many cases they are available within just a few hours. This depends on the time it takes for the DNS to propagate across the entire Internet after the name is registered and entered into our servers.

How do I transfer a domain name to Vectro from another registrar or host?

You will need to check with your current domain registrar and/or hosting company to find out their transfer policies. In many cases, we may be able to assist you in transferring the name. If we do, there will not be any additional cost. E-Mail us for details.

If you want to get hosted at Vectro but keep your current domain registrar, we will provide you with the DNS servers you will need to have your domain pointed to your new account. If you would like us to do this for you, we can in some cases make this change for you. If we do, there will not be any additional cost.

There is an option on our order form for transferring a domain name to us from another host. Once we have received your order we will submit the revisions for you at no additional cost. The other option is to handle the transfer yourself if you choose.

How do I transfer my web site(s) to Vectro from another host?

If you are coming from a cPanel host and have the backups feature available, you can use that to make and download a backup of your home directory. Your new hosting account will be ready before the domain is switched over. This way you will be able to upload and test your web site before the domain is changed to point at your new account.

Can I host multiple domain names in the same account?

Yes you can. Different account types include different amounts of domain names. You may purchase more if you need to. There are also reseller plans available which allow you to sell hosting accounts and manage them yourself using the WebHost Manager control panel.

Can I park a domain at Vectro for free before I sign up for hosting?

Yes, you can go to our Free Domain Parking site and register a new domain to park for free. The only fee you pay is the domain registration, the parking is free. We will even help you transfer your domain name from another host or registrar at no cost.
