Why Is Vectro different from budget hosting providers?

Budget hosting providers who provide extremely high amounts of disk space and monthly transfer often bank on their customers only using a fraction of their account's resources. They will sometimes disable or even cancel accounts which have not used up their limit simply because the high traffic sites put too much of a strain on their servers. In order to offer their service at such a low price they often squeeze more web sites on one server than it can handle, which can cause any number of problems. Some hosts offer "unlimited" plans. While that works for cell phone companies, there is no such thing as "unlimited" in the web hosting world. The fact is bandwidth is an important resource and it must be managed properly between the host and the customer.

What is cPanel?

cPanel is an interactive web-based interface which allows you to manage most aspects of your account all in one place. Some examples of what you have control over are managing domain names, e-mail addresses, e-mail forwards, auto-responders, SSL, FTP and much more. It puts everything in one place, making your life easier. In just a few clicks, cPanel also helps you install and configure the CGI and PHP scripts that are included with your account. These are just some of the ways cPanel helps you. For more information and to log in to a demo cPanel account, see cPanel features.

How long does it take for a new account to be set up?

In most cases, new accounts are set up automatically once payment has been received. Some new accounts are held for moderation and can take 24 hours or less to be set up on business days. An e-mail is sent to the account holder's address with the information you will need to access your account for the first time. This e-mail will also contain other important information about the service. All new accounts are checked for signs of fraud. Vectro reserves the right to deny service to any account which is determined to be fraudulent.

What are the costs of a domain name? (example.com)

Domains cost $9.99 per year for .com, .net, .org. and .biz. $7.99 per year for .info and .us. Only entities with a United States postal address may register .us domains. Domains are renewed on a yearly basis. You can purchase a domain for up to 10 years in advance. First year of payment is required to register a new domain or transfer an existing domain from the current registrar. If you do not wish to transfer the domain, simply log into your registrar and point your DNS servers to Vectro at no extra cost. Yearly re-bills can be invoiced or automatically charged to your credit card.

How long does it take to register a domain name?

New domain registrations and transfer become active within 24 hours in most cases. In many cases they are available within just a few hours. This depends on the time it takes to review orders and for the DNS to propagate across the entire Internet after the name is registered and pointed in our servers. Domain transfers require the owner to authorize the change using a domain key and/or authorization code. If you need help with this process, open a support ticket.

How do I use an existing domain which has already been registered?

You have two options:

1) If you want to change your registrar to Vectro, you will need to check with your current domain registrar and/or hosting company to find out their transfer policies. This usually involves the domain owner authorizing the change by using a transfer key and/or authorization key. Sometimes a domain also has to be unlocked from within the current registrar's control panel before the transfer can be authorized. It is understandable that this process may be difficult for many people. We may be able to assist you in transferring the name at no extra cost. Open a support ticket for help. When you check out, select the "I want to transfer my domain to Vectro Web Hosting" option on the order form. Then, enter the name of the domain you intend on transferring.

2) If you want to get hosted at Vectro but keep your current domain registrar, we will provide you with the DNS servers you will need to point your domain name to your new account. You will need to log into your current registrar's control panel and change the DNS server info so it points to the Vectro DNS servers. If you would like us to do this for you, we can assist in most cases at no extra cost. Open a support ticket for help. When you check out, select the "I will update my nameservers on an existing domain Or I will register a new domain" option on the order form. Then, enter the name of the domain you intend on using.

How do I transfer my web site(s) to Vectro from another host?

If you are coming from a cPanel host and have the backups feature available, you can use that to make and download a backup of your home directory. Your new hosting account will be ready ahead of to transfer files to before the DNS is changed. This way you can set things up in the new account and make sure everything is working before you point all of your traffic to it. Open a support ticket and explain that you have a cPanel backup which you want restored. This will be done for you at no extra cost as long as you can place the backup somewhere on the web for easy access. It is recommended that log files are deleted before the backup is created. This speeds up the time it takes to backup your account and also speeds up the time it takes to restore it. Large log files can slow the process down. You can transfer Webalizer, AWStats, and Analog statistics without the logs, so don't worry about losing your historical data when you delete your log files. Also delete any PHP error_log files before creating the backup. If your host has some other type of backup system, we suggest you use that to create a copy of your site if you do not already have one.
